Workshop on the Ekdahl FAR with Karl Ekdahl of KNAS

We have a wonderful workshop planned next week with Karl Ekdahl of KNAS presenting the new electro-acoustic instrument the Ekdahl FAR. The Ekdahl FAR is a single stringed instrument that primarily exploits natural harmonics in a string by utilising an electro-mechanical bowing wheel. Unlike traditional instruments that varies the frequency to obtain different note, the Ekdahl FAR uses precision digital control to excite natural harmonics in a string in order to get different “notes”. The resulting tones and scales require a different approach to composition and challenges how we normally think of “notes” in music. Attempting to bridge the acoustic/orchestral world, with modular synthesis and live coding/sequencing by presenting an interface that is tactile, can be controlled by standards like MIDI and CV and even direct interfacing via R/S-232 serial communication.

Participation is limited. Please register in advance at: support@patch-point.com, with your name, contact email and a bit about yourself!

Participants are welcome to bring with them their own sequencer, controllers and audio recorders ! Feel free to ask us any questions! (The workshop is free of charge)
