KMRU

KMRU is a Nairobi born - Berlin-based sound artist whose practice is most attentive to the impulses that prompt us to pause. His field recordings invite presence towards the mundane - honoring relation over spectacle. KMRU’s sonic architectures span from live performances and durational pieces to field recordings and installations. As a multi-generational steward of sound whose work was seeded by the name he carries and shares with his grandfather, Kenya’s first pop-culturally renowned folk musician Joseph Kamaru. KMRU approaches his artistic relationality practice with both a reverence for and enduring reinterpretation of time - treating temporal dimensions as a collaborator in and of themselves.
