Magic Box

The Magic Box is a new instrument from David Bellinger made from the best sounding wood we can find and vintage music box components. Unlike Bellinger's eKalimbas, whose tines are played directly with human fingers, the Magic Box's tines are plucked by manually turning the metal cylinders. Each cylinder's pins can rotate independently, allowing for new gestures and expressive playing of a historically mechanical instrument.

eKalimba is a brand of electric kalimbas conceptualized in the 1980s by David Bellinger. The eKalimbas are designed by Bellinger in Portland, Oregon and hand-built from locally-sourced wood. Each instrument has a glueless construction based around a removable bridge, adjustable pickup and 6,5mm (1/4 inch) output jack. They are user-serviceable and tunable and come with a two year warranty.
